Experiences I would Rather have skipped:

I can now add a new one to that list- getting hit by a car. I'm fine, he didn't even knock me down, but I really would have preferred not being hit. As far as it goes, it was a good experience- I have a good clear witness, the guy stayed on the scene and called 911. The RCMP and the paramedics were great to me, I have no wounds, just stiff muscles. But really, I'm gonna say that all things being equal, I would have rather got across the street without incident and hopped on my bus and gone home without all the flashing lights, fuss and bother.

It's been forever since I got on lj. I keep running out of time/steam. I have to stop playing Zuma if I'm going to get anything written.

Bathroom is done and gorgeous! Photos are on my facebook. I hung pictures today and a little fiddly stuff, but it's been done for weeks. The only thing that sucks is that the new pipes are smaller than the old ones and our shower isn't nearly as hot as it used to be (we have hot water steam heat in our building, which means you could opt for a shower just shy of boiling). But tepid is fine. I guess. I'll get used to it.

Today and last night was baking time! Shortbread cookies, tart shells, hot & spicy and sweet & spicy nuts have been made. The tart shells will be filled with ginger marmalade and dark chocolate. I still need to make gingerbread/ ginger snaps, some form of molasses and ginger based confection. I am also thinking of fudge and coffee candies. I need more hours.

My sister is back from Japan on Saturday, I am so excited, I just can't wait to see her. I will have to wait, though. I just won't like it. She's coming back via Hawaii with her best friend, so she'll be lightly tanned and relaxed and giddy.

So minor flood during renovation Friday; the building manager sent around a note Thursday that said the building water would be turned off between 1-3 to allow our contractors to install the shutoff valves in our bathroom. The person upstairs either didn't read this memo, or just forgot and tried to turn on the water in his unit, which caused the system to de-pressurize all over our crew and the people in the unit underneath us. Not a lot of water, but enough. When our contractor went down to explain to her why her bathroom was wet and explain that it wasn't our fault, she freaked on him. Great.

Need to find a shower tonight. I don't think a sponge bath will cut it for that professional look Monday morning.

What a busy week. Work, as usual, until Thursday. That day I picked up a rental car in the morning (incidentally, if you go north on Kempt road and turn left, you can't get on the bridge. Live and learn), worked all morning and headed off to Moncton at 1:30, with a quick detour to Truro to pick up two women from the branch there who were also attending Intact Broker Days (atlantic region). Drove up with no incidents, even paid the toll on the Cobequid pass without dropping coins or running into one of the booths (it happened this summer). Hmm, odd, my computer doesn't like the name Moncton, but has no problem with Cobequid. Weird.

So there was a cocktail party that night, once we were all settled into the hotel ( I had a huge room all to myself, it was awesome) and they handed out feather boas; mine was red. Snacks of fresh prime rib, make-it-yourself sandwiches with any trimming you could want was great for me, with music and dancing as well as tons of mingling. I met people from MCT offices in New Brunswick and other parts of NS, as well as some people from Intact and other brokerages. So many women in insurance, it was about 70% female. One young guy was grinning the entire time, if he had wanted to pick up, I'm sure he could have. The seminars the next day were good and we had Candy Palmeter as a motivational speaker, she was great; funny, quick and just right on top of things.

The drive back was uneventful, and I was even home by 7pm, wicked. I drove G down to work, watched some TV, went to bed late. Drove G to work again, went to the market nice and early, found out that Fox Hill was down a body so promised to return after I'd dropped off the rental. Came back, raided the Tickle Trunk and was clocked in there at 9. Guess what the second worst costume to wear the the farmer's market is, after overalls? Hippie. I wore this funky bakik shirt that I stole from my stepfather years ago, tie died bandanna and fake hair down to my waist and half the people didn't even know I was in costume. Sigh.

The wind and rain has begun, hopefully this is it, the equivalent of Bill honking his horn as he whizzes by, but just in case I filled three growlers with water, filled the bathtub (for flushing purposes) and made sure I have lots of stuff that can be eaten without cooking. I just made coffee for G which I will put in a Thermos for when he wakes up. Which will be quite some time from now. But if when he wakes up, the power is out and he wants coffee, there it is.

Another busy weekend- I had a quick nap Friday evening, then off to see the first of the 4 bands playing at the Paragon for the Hootenany. I couldn't stay late as I was working the market the next day, but I made time to finally see Dawn, Heidi and Kathy play together. They play classic country songs like Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and Hank Williams. They play under the name Skank Williams and they're great. In addition to an amazing Jolene and fantastic Folsom Prison Blues, they did a few originals, including "Drinking triples, seeing double and feelin' single tonight". Great fun.

Saturday was Beer Fest and it was packed. They ran out of the official cups by 8pm and had to raid Garrison for their stock of small sample cups. There was an advantage to having so many people: it was so hard to get through to the beer, you didn't get as loaded as quickly. I really liked an orange beer from Ontario that I tried and there was an amazing stout from Quebec that was like dessert with it's chocolate and vanilla flavours. There were quite a few other good ones, but I don't feel like getting my booklet out to remember them.

Sunday was basketball! I didn't play, I got tickets to see 94 Inc take on the Rainmen, so I treated Jena to her first skybox experience. Not that we had keys to the liquor or anything, but we did had drinks brought to us, which was nice. The game itself was ok, it took a little while to get the hang of scoring as it was a street style game, so no foul shots; instead the fouled team got a point. There wasn't as much fancy shooting and ball play that I thought a street game might have, but they did work well together on a fews neat moves.

I survived the meltyness of the weekend, hoo-rah. I did absolutely nothing with my spare day, just read my book and melted a little more. I wonder if I've lost any weight from this?

OK, my little mini rant. People don't know how to walk on a street with no sidewalks. You walk single file, facing oncoming traffic, and move over as far as you can when a vehicle is approaching. Yes, you are a pedestrian, and the cars do have to watch out for you, but forcing them out into the other lane so they can give you space is dangerous and slowing or stopping traffic is just rude. Don't get me wrong, I get pretty annoyed when vehicles ignore me when I'm trying to do something perfectly legal like cross a street, but I also try to stay out of their way. Oh, and if there is only a sidewalk on one side of the street, use it even if it's the "wrong side" of the street, especially on oh, say a narrow busy bridge. Stupid woman almost got flattened by a honey wagon on the lower Little Sackville River bridge.
